PYP News

The IB PYP teachers had an extended collaborative meeting, summing up their summer’s work and preparing for the school year. Mrs Banna Chaar, PYP coordinator, organized the event, and the teachers came up with extraordinary plans for the year.

The PYP teachers at CTI had a workshop in which Mr George Melki and associate demonstrated how to use the new Progress Report. Mrs Banna Chaar, PYP coordinator, was there as facilitator. The workshop was very well presented, and the teachers found the new system to their liking. Pictures are available in the Gallery section.

By special invitation from Miss Latife Yaghi, the Arabic teacher of grade 4, Mrs Ghaya Abi Antoun gave a talk about robotics. This was part of the PYP theme. We share a few pictures in the Gallery section.

Mrs Mary Kfoury organized an outing to little known Roman baths, discovered in the basement of an apartment building! Since they were in the Parliament district, the students also visited the Greek Orthodox St George Church which boasts a much-older church under the current one! It was the turn of grade 3 to take their PYP-themed lesson at a farm. The outing was educational and fun as well, respecting the current PYP theme. As part of the current PYP theme, grade 2 visited a zoo. There were some domestic animals, as well as a few wild ones. Grade 1 visited Mr Paul Abi Rached’s Terre Liban for an ecological get-together. The students sorted and learned about recycling, they planted and visited an ecological garden, and they attended a session on eco-citizenship. Mr Bassel Chalhoub discussed solar energy with the students of grade 4. He addressed environmental issues, the uses of solar panels, the methods of installation, and the science of solar energy. As part of their PYP program, the students of Ms Rosie Melhem and Mr Fouad Helou presented a program that took the other students to the heavens. There were PowerPoint presentations, readings, a song about the planets, and even a biography of . . . Pluto!  Check the Gallery for pictures!

It was the youngest inovlement of CTI students in a bake sale. Grade 4 students, under the supervision of Miss Latife Yaghi, and in conjunction with their PYP program, organized this charity event. Grade 1 A and B, along with their teacher Ms Diana Blati, had a PYP planting activity. The budding scientists of grade 1 are now awaiting the germination of the seeds they planted. Good job, grade 1 and Ms Diana!  As usual, pictures are in the Gallery section or Facebook.

In a full-day open house, the CTI teachers hosted the parents of kindergarten and grade school. The teachers discussed the progress of the students with their parents. It was a very beneficial collaboration between the parents and CTI, as exemplified by PYP standards.

Mr Banna Chaar, PYP coordinator at CTI, is organizing PYP orientation sessions for the parents of kindergarten and grade school. The meetings are very fruitful, and the parents get pertinent information and collaborate in sample PYP activities.  See the Gallery section for a few pictures! 

January 8 and 9, 2024 The teachers of kindergarten and grades 1 to 6 attended workshops organized by the International Baccalaureate organization, as part of PYP (Primary Years Program) candidacy. The teachers had a greatly profitable time, and CTI thanks the moderators of the workshops.
